  • Experiment
A congenic strain was developed using the previously mapped Pbwg1 locus. Pbwg1 was mapped repeatlly to C57BL/6J to produce congenic B6.Cg-Pbwg1. For QTL analysis B6.Cg-Pbwg1 males at N12F11 and N12F17 were intercrossed to C57BL/6J producing a testing group of 269 F2 mice. The congenic region included 44 Mb of genomic DNA from D2Mit33 to D2Mit38. QTLs affecting body weight , body length, and pad weight were mapped within the B6.Cg-Pbwg1 congenic interval.

The following QTLs were identified, noted in parenthesis after the QTLs are the linked marker , bp location in Mbs , LOD score and % variance explained by the QTL :
    Lean Body weight - Pbwg1.1 ( near D2Mit205 - 66.8 - 2.4 - 4.4%),
    weight gain 1-3 wks - Pbwg1.2 ( D2Mit7 - 38.1 - 2.8 - 5.0%),
    totalbodyweight - Pbwg1.3 ( D2Mit205 - 65.1 - 4.4 - 7.5%),
    tail length - Pbwg1.4 ( near D2Mit245 - 71.2 - 5.6 - 9.6%),
    gonadal fat pad weight - Pbwg1.5 ( D2Mit61 - 60.5 - 4.1 - 7.1%),
    inguinal fat pad weight - Pbwg1.6 ( D2Mit270 - 52.7 - 2.7 - 4.7%).
    retroperitoneal fat pat weight - Pbwg1.7 ( D2Mit270 - 52.7 - 5.1 - 8.6%)
    total fat pad weight - Pbwg1.8 ( D2Mit270 - 52.7 - 4.9 -8.4%).
and a spleen wt QTL - Pbwg1.9 peaked at 38.1 Mbp (28 cMs).

A more detaied explanation of the QTL parameters can be found in Table 4 of the reference J:121981.
