  Chinese hamster x mouse somatic cell hybrids were typed for Hc using EcoRI digested DNA on Southern blots probed with a mouse Mu23IV cDNA probe. Mouse chromosome complement determined by karyotype and isozyme analyses. Hybrid ABm5 retained centromere-band 2C1 of chromosome 2 localizing Hc in the proximal region. In addition, 49 AKXL, SWXL and BXD RI strains, no recombinants were detected between serologically determined Hc and C5 determined by Southern blot using cDNA probe pC5. Hc and C5 are probably identical.
