  Hoxa9 determined by hybridization with genomic probe MH-Ig5 on Southern blots. Strain distribution in CXB RI strains for Hoxa4 is given. Revised gene symbols: Cd8a, Hoxa4 and Hoxa9 (formerly Ly-2, Hox-1.4 and Hox-1.7 respectively).
• Experiment
  The presence of mouse chromosomes and Hoxa9 in somatic cell hybrids was analzyed. Hoxa9 was determined on Southern blots of EcoRI digested DNA probed with a mouse Hoxa9 cDNA probe. The diagnostic 5.5kb mouse fragment was present only in the four cell lines that retained Chromosome 6, thus assigning Hoxa9 to Chromosome 6.
