    Whole genome scan was performed on 1632 animals from a (LG/J x SM/J)F3 cross to identify imprinted genetic loci associated with body composition traits. Parental strain LG/J is heavier than SM/J animals by 16 to 20 grams. Animals were weighed weekly from1- to 10-weeks of age. A panel of 353 SNP markers at a resolution of 4 cM - 5 cM was used for linkage analysis. All genotypes and parent-of-origin information were used in the analysis.

    A paternally-imprinted QTL was identified at 8.26 cM (31.05 Mb) on mouse Chromosome 1. This locus spans 11.04 Mb to 37.8 Mb and is named Wtiq1 (weight imprinted QTL 1). Wtiq1 is linked to body weight at 6- to 9-weeks of age and postnatal growth rate from 3- to 10 weeks of age.

    Wtiq2 (weight imprinted QTL 2) mapped to 0cM (3.38 Mb) on mouse Chromosome 2. The QTL confidence interval spans 3.38 Mb to 9.08 Mb. This locus is linked to body weight at 3 weeks of age with a paternal imprinting effect. Wtiq2 also shows linkage to body weight at 1 and 2 weeks of age with polar underdominant imprinting effects.

    Three imprinted QTLs were identified on mouse Chromosome 3. Wtiq3 (weight imprinted QTL 3) is located at 1.73 cM (10.02 Mb) and spans 3.79 Mb to 32.75 Mb. This locus is associated with body weight at 1- to 6-weeks of agewith a bipolar dominance imprinting effect. Wtiq3 also displays linkage to body weight at 7-, 9- and 10-weeks of age with a maternal imprinting effect. Wtiq4 (weight imprinted QTL 4) mapped to 60.7 cM (118.36 Mb) and the QTL confidence interval spans 102.18Mb to 135.4 Mb. This locus is associated with body weight from 5- to 10-weeks of age and postnatal growth rate from 3- to 10-weeks of age with a bipolar dominance imprinting effect. Wtiq5 (weight imprinted QTL 5) at 82.69 cM (148.86 Mb) displays paternalimprinting effects on body weight from 5- to 10-weeks of age and postnatal growth rate from 3- to 10-weeks of age. The QTL interval for Wtiq5 spans 135.4 Mb to 155.69 Mb.

    Wtiq6 (weight imprinted QTL 6) on mouse Chromosome 5 displays different imprintingeffects. This locus is linked to body weight from 4- to 6-weeks of age displaying paternal imprinting. Wtiq6 also displays polar overdominance imprinting for body weight from 7- to 10-weeks of age and postnatal growth rate from 3- to 10-weeks of age.

    A locus at 27.7 cM (56.32 Mb) on mouse Chromosome 7 displays paternal imprinting on 5- to 9-week body weight and postnatal growth rate from 3- to 10-weeks of age. This locus is named Wtiq7 (weight imprinted QTL 7). The QTL confidence interval spans 36.14 Mbto 68.86 Mb. Wtiq7 also displays suggestive linkage to paternally imprinted early growth rate from 1- to 3-weeks of age.

    Wtiq8 (weight imprinted QTL 8) on mouse Chromosome 9 displays polar overdominance imprinting effects on body weight from 7- to 9-weeks of age. This locus spans 87.24 Mb to 105.35 Mb with peak linkage at 52.22 cM (99.65 Mb). Wtiq8 also displays suggestive linkage to postnatal growth rate from 3- to 10-weeks of age with bipolar dominant imprinting effects.

    Wtiq9 (weight imprinted QTL 9) maps to 42.8cM (94.76 Mb) on mouse Chromosome 12. This locus is associated with body weight from 5- to 6-weeks of age and exhibits polar overdominance imprinting effects. The QTL confidence interval spans 89.66 Mb to 98.34 Mb. Wtiq9 also displays suggestive linkage to body weight at 7 weeks of age with polar overdominance imprinting effects.

    Wtiq10 (weight imprinted QTL 10) is located at 37.75 cM (81.55 Mb) on mouse Chromosome 14. This locus is associated with body weight at 4- to 6-weeks of age and displays paternal imprinting. The Wtiq10 confidence interval spans 67.88 Mb to 92.41 Mb.
