• Experiment
  The close linkage of hr, Rb1 and Esd was supported by the following observations: 1) In the HRS/J strain, maintained by forced heterozygosity (+/hr x hr/hr), at generation 60 +/hr mice were observed to be Es10a/b and hr/hr mice Es10b/b for an estimated heterozygous segment length of 1.25cM (Cummings, Biochem Genet 17:415, 1979). 2) At generation 80, +/hr mice of the HRS/J strain were also heterzygous for both Esd and Rb1, while hr/hr mice were homozygous. 3) An HRS/J variant arising at generation 70 was +/hr and Es10b suggesting a recombination had occurred between hr and Esd. Such mice remained heterozygous for Rb1 indicating that the hr-Rb1 interval had not recombined. 4) In the balanced lethal WLHR strain + wl/hr + mice were found to be homozygous forthe rare Es10c allele and homozygous for Rb1b suggesting a crossover event had placed Esd and Rb1 in cis with hr.
