Parental strain B6.Sle1c carries NZM2410-derived DNA at the Sle1c locus (103.6 cM on mouse Chromosome 1) on a C57BL/6J genetic background. Female hybrid animals were generated from (NZB x B6.Sle1c)F1 and (NZB x C57BL/6J)F1 crosses and evaluated for autoantibody production and proteinuria from 3 months to 1 year of age. Experimental animals were sacrificed at 1 year to assess kidney pathology.

(NZB x B6.Sle1c)F1 females displayed higher anti-chromatin and anti-dsDNA antibody titers with accelerated onset compared to (NZB x C57BL/6J)F1 females. Despite the high incidence of autoantibody production in (NZB x B6.Sle1c)F1 animals proteinuria and renal dysfunction were not observed. (NZB x C57BL/6J)F1 animals also did not display proteinuria even past 1 year of age. However both hybrid populations displayed glomerular deposits with greater amounts of C3 and IgG immune complexes in (NZB x B6.Sle1c)F1 animals compared to (NZB x C57BL/6J)F1 animals. Abnormal renal histology and proliferative glomerularnephritis was more prevalent in (NZB x B6.Sle1c)F1 animals compared to (NZB x C57BL/6J)F1.

Cr2 (106.6 cM) and Cr1l (formerly Crry; 106.6 cM) are located within the Sle1c interval and have been proposed as potential candidate genes.

**Note: Authors refer to the Sle1c locus in congenic line B6.Sle1c as derived from inbred strain NZW. The original reference describing the creation of the B6.Sle1c congenic (Morel et al, 2001) indicates the donor DNA at Sle1c is derived from NZM2410. MGI curator defered to the original reference for the purpose of annotating this mapping record.
