QTL analysis using [B10.BR X (B10.BR X BALB.K)]F1 backcross mice were informative in mapping a major locus for graft vs host disease to mouse Chromosome 16. Another locus that had a protective effect was mapped to mouse Chromsome 13. Irradiated BALB.K mice were tested as susceptible and the B10.BR mice are resistant to lethal graft vs host disease when transplanted using cells from AKR/J donors.
The Chromosome 16 locus , Gvhd6, mapped to a region of chromosome 16 with a peak LOD score of 9.1 flankedD16Mit138 and D16Mit4. D16Mit4 was he marker with the highest LOD score at 27.3 cM . A second marker on mouse Chromosome 13, Gvhd7, had a protective effect and that QTL was positioned with a peak LOD of 3.4 in the region of D13Mit248.
