  DNA digested with TaqI, Southern blotted and probed for Sod-2 using human probe pHMnSOD4 produced a 5.5 kb fragment. This fragment was absent in Syrian hamster and mouse hybrid line JS 17, which has all mouse chromosomes except 17, and present in Chinesehamster and mouse hybrid R4 4.1, which has one mouse chromosome of which 17 constitutes a large part. This pattern was also observed with BamHI digested DNA (10.5 and 6.0 kb fragment).
