  Two somatic cell hyrbids were used to assign Mut to Chromosome 17. Hybrid line JS17 was a BALB/c mouse x Syrian hamster line containing all mouse chromosomes except Chromosome 17. Hybrid line R4 4-1 was a C3H/HeJ mouse x Chinese hamster line containing only mouse Chromosomes 17 and 18. When these lines were probed for Mut only R4 4-1 showed positive hybridization, suggesting that Mut maps to mouse Chromosome 17.
