The locus for X-Chromosome genes Xlr1 and Xlr2 was determined by analysis of interspecies backcross progeny from M. spretus and Mus musculus domesticus or Mus musculus musculus using cDNA probe pM1 (parental and recombinant numbers not provided). Two EcoRI polymorphic fragments were found in M. spretus. One of these fragments identifies the Xlr1 locus and maps distal to DXPas7 and proximal to Raf. The second fragment identifies Xlr2 and maps between Hprt and Cf9. The genetic distance between Xlr1 and Xlr2 on the X Chromosome was given as 17 cM. To further identify the location of these loci, a panel of somatic cell hybrids between Chinese hamster and mouse splenocytes were analyzed using the same probe. The results indicate that the two EcoRI fragments (Xlr1 and Xlr2) map to the proximal part of the X-Chromosome 29-32 cM distal to the centromere. In addition a number of genomic probes (3.14, 9.10, 17.4 1.37, 9.7) identified Xlr pseudogenes and some Xlr sequences were also linked.
