  a^e/a^e and a^x/a mice produced identical restriction fragments when digested with BssHII, MluI, NotI, SacII, and SfiI and probed with a Psp probe (Shaw, P., and Schibler, U., (1986) J. Mol. Biol. 192:567-576), whereas mice of a a^a6H/aⁱ had aberrant NotI (850 kb and 775 kb) and BssHII (675 kb and 600 kb) fragments. In a cross between a^16H/aⁱ x a^e/a^e it was observed that these fragments segregated with the x-irradiated aⁱ allele. This altered restriction pattern of aⁱ was only detected with the Psp probe. The lower molecular weight of this fragment suggest a deletion of approximately 75 kb in aⁱ. Analysis of the aⁱ fragments also indicated that the locus for Psp is no further than 600 kb from aⁱ on Chromosome 2.
