A genomic clone that identifies the hemoglobin alpha pseudogene, alpha 4 (Hba-ps4) was mapped to the distal t complex. TaqI digests produced a t specific Hba-ps4 fragment of 5.2 kb in complete T haplotypes from 129 mice, whereas wild type fragments of 3.8 and 1.4 kb in C3H mice and 3.4 kb in BALB/cJ mice were observed. All partial proximal t-haplotypes th17, th18, tTu2 and tLub2) were associated with the wild type inbred fragments whereas the 5.2 kb Hba-ps4 specific fragment was associated with proximal t haplotype th2, t3, tw18, tAE5, th45, th49, th51, th53, th44 and TOrl ) which are bounded proximally by Tcp-1. Further it was noted that a deletion in a segment of the t Chromosome in t6 including Hba-ps4 deriving the th20haplotype coincided with the appearance of the Itpr3tf mutation in th20, demonstrating the two may be linked.
