Wnt1 Wnt1sw molecular technique pMT25
Notes
  • Reference
sw is an allele of Wnt1.
  • Experiment
The recessive gene sw (swaying) was shown to be a mutation at the Wnt1 locus through allelism testing using the wnt1neo allele that was created by the insertion of the bacterial neon into the second exon of Wnt1. A heterozygous +/sw male was mated with heterozygous +/wnt1neo females. From this cross seven of the 34 progeny died after birth. These seven mice were identical in phenotype to wnt1neo mutant homozygotes indicating that sw and Wnt1 are allelic. The sw allele is thus Wnt1sw. Molecular analysis of the Wnt1sw allele indicates that the mutation is a single base (guanosine) deletion in the third exon of Wnt1.
