  This reference reviews the distribution of Ren1 and Ren2 genes in inbred and wild derived mice. Authors suggest the Ren1, Ren2 gene complex is the result of a gene duplication in the ancestors of subgenus Mus. Southern analysis of mice that carry both genes show a 11.5kb PvuII fragment when probed with pSM479, and this fragment is associated with the Pepc^b allele. For mice that carry only Ren1 a 8.0kb PvuII fragment is observed. The 8.0kb fragment is associated with the Pepc^a allele.
