  Strain CAST/Ei expresses an antigen (locus Hd-1) that is cross reactive with C57BL/10-derived Hd-1. There was no recombination between this CAST/Ei derived antigen with we and un in 20 backcross mice derived from a (CAST/Ei x B10.UW/Sn)F1 x B10.UW/Sn mating. This CAST/Ei antigen is either encoded by the Hd-1 locus or by a locus very close to it. SPRET/Ei also expresses an Hd-1 cross reactive antigen. There was one recombination of the SPRET/Ei derived antigen with the agouti locus in 20 backcross mice from a (B10.LP-H3^b/Sn x SPRET/Ei)F1 x B10.LP-H3^b/Sn mating. The SPRET/Ei antigen also maps very close to or is encoded by Hd-1.
