  A single mutation event in Hba^th-J (alpha-thalassemia) was observed to inactivate both Hba (adult) and Hba-x (embryonic). This result suggests that Hba and Hba-x are closely linked on mouse Chromosome 11. This reference also notes that the Hba^th-J mutation resides very near Hba based on recombination with Chromosome 11 markers wa-2 and sh-2.
