Mice of the Thp/+ genotype on a C57BL/6J background were observed to express external mixed sex traits. The sex ratio of mice born was also skewed. These expressed traits were indicated as being caused by a dominant autosomal gene, Tas, on Chromosome 17. The authors suggest three possible relationships of Thp with the expressed trait: One, that Thp may exert a pleiotropic effect; two, Thp may be a deletion resulting in the hemizygous expression of gene(s) transferred from C57BL/6J during the production of the Thp stocks and three, Tas may be a de novo mutation closely linked to Thp.
