  An association between the genetic centromeric marker D11Nds1 and the susceptibility to diabetes locus was established through analysis of backcross mice from (NOD x B10.H-2^g7)F1 x NOD reciprocal crosses. The NOD allele that confers susceptibility on Chromosome 11 is designated Idd4. The author stated that this association was detected only in mice that express diabetes at a young age.
