  A genetic background-controlled search using 593 mice from 21 inbred strains coupled with SNP analysis was used to identify a lung cancer susceptibility locus in mouse Chromosome 18. This QTL was named Las2 by the authors and could be identified within a 40 kb region bounded by D18Mit103 and D18Mit188. Within this region was Riken gene 4930503L19Rik for which the authors indicated as the gene underlying the Las2 phenotype. Evidence is presented showing that Las2 is also within a region of occupied by Par2, but is in fact distinct from that marker. It is important to note that MGI did not created a QTL marker for Las2 as both its mapping and identification were provided by the authors
