Consomic CCS13 is a strain that has a chromosome 13 derived from A/J on a C57BL/6J background. Thirteen male mice from CCS13 had higher wheel running and total cage activity then C57BL/6J suggesting an involvement of an A/J chromosome 13. A total of 189(C57BL/6J x CCS-13) F2 mice were analyzed in a chromosome 13 scan to discover any QTL that contributed to the increased activity levels. A significant QTL ( Wra1 ) associated with wheel running activity was observed between 21 and 95 Mbp. A peak LODfor Wra of 7.3 was found at 76 Mbs in association with D13Mit254. Wra1 accounts for 10% of the total variance in the F2 population.
