188 (FVB/NJ x C57BL/6J) F2 mice were used to detect QTL for exercise training response. After treadmill training F2 mice were significantly heaver then C57BL/6J mice but were not unlike FVB/NJ. FVB/NJ mice had the highest intrinsic exercise capacity whereas C57BL/6J had the lowest. C57BL/6J had lower post-training work whereas FVB/NJ had higher post training work. These differences allowed for the QTL mapping of these traits. QTL for pre-training work was found on chromosome 14, Eeq3 (LOD 3.72, cM 4.0, nearest marker, rs3689508) and on chromosome 19 Eeq4(LOD 3.63, cM 34.4, nearest marker , rs3679049). Suggestive QTL were found in chromosomes 1,2,3 and 8. For post training work a QTL Etq1 on chromosome 3 was identified (LOD 4.66 , 60 cM , nearest marker rs3687177) and another Etq2 on chromosome 14(LOD 4.99, cM 26.0 nearest marker rs3660830).
