  Illegitimate meiotic pairing between Sxra and the short arm of the Y Chromosome result in deletions of Y Chromosome material. The deleted segment includes Sx1 repeat units and therefore loss of male determination. The authors suggest that this finding indicates that the Sry locus is in the proximity of the Y centromere and proximal to Zfy1, Ube1y1 and Eif2s3y.
