  The authors use overlapping clones and exon trapping to physically map the loci in the following order on mouse Chromosome 7: D7Smh12, Myo7a, Omp, D7Smh30, D7Smh24. In addition the authors used two backcrosses, ((C57BL/10 x CBA/Cash1/sh1)F1 x CBA/Cash1/sh1) and ((M. domesticus-p c^ch x M. spretus)F1 x M. domesticus-p c^ch), in order to limit the placement of Myo7a to a ~500kb region stretching over YAC1 and YAC2. They report that D7Smh12 and D7Smh30 showed no recombinants with sh1 and D7Smh24 detected one recombinant with sh1, thus limiting the nonrecombinant region of sh1 to the distal end of YAC2. Comparison of sequences and trapped exons show sh1/sh1 mutants encode a mutation in the myosin VII gene.
