  Somatic cell hybrids were from fusion of Chinese hamster cell line E36 and BALB/c fibrosarcoma MethA cells. Hybrid line MAE 28A had an entire Chromosome 12, hybrid line MAE 4 had a deletion of the distal half of Chromosome 12, with the breakpoint at band C1-C2 and hybrid cell line MAE 28A 8Ag^R contained no detectable mouse chromosomes. When DNA from these lines was probed with cDNA for Igh-3, hybridization was evident in MAE 28A only. These results suggest that Igh-3 is located in the distal half of Chromosome 12.
