Notes
  • Experiment
TaqI fingerprinting analysis and rare cutter (SstII, NruI, BssHII and MluI) restriction maps were used to physically map the 14kb complex repeat unit, represented by the symbol DXWas68, to mouse Chromosome X. The authors used this analysis to construct YAC contigs across a region referred to as the 141 island. The 141 island is a region on the X Chromosome which is abundant in the 14kb complex repeat sequences. FISH analysis of metaphase spreads of C57BL/6 male spleen cells using YAC clones specific for the 141 island region showed a strong signal at the A3 band of mouse Chromosome X and a fainter, inconsistant signal at band D. This data indicates that the 141 island may be a single contiguous repeat structure within the A3 Giesma dark band on mouse Chromosome X.
