Authors examined the transmission of alternate alleles for selected loci in the JAX (BSS) [(C57BL/6Ei x SPRET/Ei)F1 x SPRET/Ei] and JAX (BSB) [(C57BL/6J x M. spretus)F1 x C57BL/6J] backcrosses. In the JAX (BSB) cross, the frequency of s (M. spretus) allele fluctuated ~50% as expected in the absence of deviation, however, the JAX (BSS) cross showed no significant deviation from Mendelian inheritance, which was centered near DXMit87 and affected a 50 cM segment of the chromosome. Based upon this finding, authors calculated the test statistic GF for a single distortion-controlling locus model with DCSX (distortion-controlling locus on the X Chromosome) at DXmit87. Authors then incrementally moved the proposed DCSX centromerically or telemerically from DXMit87 and recalculated GF at each point. GF estimates were compared for various proposed DCSX locations and the location that minimized GF was concluded to be the most likely location. A DCSX located 1.3 cM distal to DXMit87 with a predicted deviation from Mendelian inheritance of 89% gave the best fit to the empirical data (GF = 2.33, 1.6 d.f., P ~1). This DCSX was designated Dcsx1.
