    Southern analysis of various inbred strain males and females detected a new Mtv locus (Mtv31) that was present in males carrying a Y Chromosome of M. m. domesticus origin, and therefore, inferred to be on the Y Chromosome. Typing of F1 offspring from reciprocal crosses between strains that carry and do not carry this retroviral sequence (NOD/Lt and C57BLKS/J), and mice from a recombinant inbred set whose progenitors differ for Mtv31 (SWXJ) confirmed Y-linkage of Mtv31.
