  A genome-wide scan was used to map the vic1 QTL to mouse Chromosome 17. vic1 controls the resistance to mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) and murine leukemia virus (MuLV). C3H/HeJ mice are susceptible whereas I/LnJ are resistant . 150 susceptible and 150 resistant backcross mice were obtained from crosses between susceptible (C3H/HeN X I/LnJ)F1 and resistant I/LnJ mice. vic1 mapped to a 23-Mb region of chromosome 17 between marker D17Mit24 and an a marker designed by the authors at position 60 Mb.
