F1 progeny derived from C57BR/cdJ x AKR/J mice were induced with MMLV and 52 tumor cell lines analyzed in a genome wide scan for LOH (loss of heterozygosity) of polymorphic endogenous viral loci. LOH of AKR/J contributed mouse Chromosome 4 loci Mpmv19 and Pmv25 was observed. The known locations of the viral insertions in mouse Chromosome 4 enabled the investigation of the LOH of polymorphic microsatellite markers within the region. Markers D4Mit82, D4Mit27, D4Mit12, D4Mit69, D4Mit13 and D4Mit62 spanning approximately 45 cM of distal mouse Chromosome 4 also showed a LOH in 3 tumor cell lines which was consistent with that observed for Mpmv19 and Pmv25 loci. Interestingly the region deleted in mouse Chromosome 4 shares conservation with a region of human Chromosome 9 that contains tumor suppressor loci, however the mouse homologues of these loci, Cdkn2a and Cdkn2b, were not within the region deleted in the F1 progeny.
