    Linkage analysis was performed on 172 male (129S6/SvEvTac-Apoetm4Mae x D2.129P2(B6)-Apoetm1Unc/J)F2 intercross mice using 170 SNP markers to identify QTL associated with atherosclerotic susceptibility (atherosclerotic lesion size at aortic root). Parental strain D2.129P2(B6)-Apoe exhibits higher incidence of atherosclerosis when compared to 129S6/SvEvTac-Apoe.

    QTL Ath36 maps to 21 - 106 Mb (7 - 46 cM) on Chromosome 14 with a peak LOD score of 3.9 at 73 Mb (29 cM) in linkage with atherosclerotic lesion size. 129S6/SvEvTac-Apoe alleles confer increased susceptibility to atherosclerotic lesion size.
