Members of the Tennessee Mouse Genome Consortium (TMGC) obtained phenotype data from 70 strains of BXD RI mice for 250 measures related to multiple behavioral assays across several batteries: response to, andwithdrawal from cocaine, 3,4- methylenedioxymethamphetamine; ecstasy (MDMA), morphine and alcohol; novelty seeking; behavioral despair and related neurological phenomena; pain sensitivity; stress sensitivity; anxiety; hyperactivity and sleep/wake cycles. All traits were measured in both sexes. Sex differences and heritability estimates were obtained for each trait, and a comparison of early (N = 32) and recent (N = 37) BXD RI lines was performed. Primary data are publicly available for heritability, sex difference and genetic analyses using the MouseTrack database, and are also available in GeneNetwork.org for quantitative trait locus (QTL) detection and genetic analysis of gene expression.

The authors performed the QTL mapping experiments described above using the web-based tool GeneNetwork (NCBI Build 36). The resulting positional candidates were uploaded to GeneWeaver.org and are identified in Supp. Table 2 of the paper. No mapping data are explicitly given in the paper as readers are encouraged to try the mapping in GeneNetwork themselves.

The authors did request official nomenclature for two of the QTL they identified, which they asked to be named Cocia15 and Cocia16 (cocaine induced activation 15 and 16, respectively). Mapping data for Cocia15 and Cocia16 were provided by the authors upon request.

    Cocia15 maps to 101.102848 - 114.507955 Mb on Chromosome 4 (rs13477873 - gnf04.110.583) with a peak LOD score of 3.36 at 56.1 cM.

    Cocia16 maps to 33.427165 - 45.108962 Mb on Chromosome 15 (rs8267966 - rs13482547) with a peak LOD score of 3.47 at 23.877 cM.

No alleles were reported for either QTL.

The authors also performed multi-trait QTL analysis by extracting common underlying factors from multiple behavioral phenotypes and generating strain-specific factor scores. Factors were mapped as multi-variate traits. Four significant QTL were identified corresponding to four different factors:

QTL Moar1, located on Chromosome 9, is significant for morphine activity or response (Factor 3).

QTL Mow1, located on Chromosome 10, is significant for morphine withdrawal (Factor 2).

QTL Insilac1, located on Chromosome 13, is significant for injection stress-induced locomotor activity - Cocaine battery (Factor 1).

QTL Senres1, located on Chromosome 13, is significant for response to sensitivity (Factor 13).

No mapping or allele data are reported for these four QTL.
