This QTL contributes to differences in resistance to mortality from ectromelia virus infection. C57BL/6 is resistant; DBA/2 is susceptible. Some BXD lines lose resistance upon castration inferring a role for gonadal factors, but castrate C57BL/6 remain resistant indicating a redundant mechanism.
