Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit decreased plasma HDL cholesterol levels due to reduced liver lipoprotein production, decreased circulating LDL cholesterol and phospholipid levels, reduced VLDL-triglyceride secretion, and impaired glucose tolerance.
