Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit embryonic lethality before implantation. Heterozygotes show reduced spontaneous apoptosis of differentiating spermatogonia as well as reduced apoptosis and nuclear DNA fragmentation in splenocytes, thymocytes and MEFs in response to apoptotic stimuli.
