Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit taurodontism, supernumerary molars, small molars and misshapened crowns. Mice homozygous for a conditional allele activated in Krt14+ cells also exhibit decreased basal cell proliferation affecting the tongue, sweat glands and nails.
