Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit neonatal lethality, spongiform encephalopathy with increased brain apoptosis, and hypoglycemia. Mice homozygous for a different knock-out allele fail to show fluoxetine-induced neurogenesis and behavioral responses.
