Homozygous null mice display embryonic lethality. Embryos homozygous for one null allele failed to develop extraembryonic ectoderm, did not maintain trophoblast stem cells, and had abnormal or absent mesoderm. Mice heterozygous for another allele had impaired lactation and mammary gland development.
