Homozygous mutant pups feed well but exhibit low levels of glucose, glycogen and ketones, develop opisthotonos and die within a few days after birth. Affected livers contain lipid droplets that are less prominent, fewer in number and smaller in size thanthose seen in unaffected littermates.
