Males homozygous for a knock-out allele are severely subfertile and show decreased fertilization frequency both in vivo and in vitro, asthenozoospermia, reduced sperm mitochondrial activity, and abnormal sperm morphology including disjunction and hairpin bending between the midpiece and the principal piece of the flagellum.
