Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit no apparent abnormality in spermatogenesis but show postnatal growth retardation, inactivity, shorter hindlimbs and hindlimb disability, anemia, lower numbers of reticulocytes and lymphocytes, a decreased erythropoietin level, and premature death.
