Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele die shortly after birth due to respiratory failure, are hyporesponsive to tactile stimuli, and exhibit defects in neurotransmitter release with impaired synaptic vesicle trafficking and depletion of synaptic vesicles at the neuromuscular junction.
