Male mice homozygous for a null allele are sterile and exhibit spermatogenic defects characteristic of oligoasthenoteratozoospermia. Sperm are incompetent for oocyte binding and in vitro fertilization and they show head defects associated with dysregulation of the acrosome-acroplaxome complex.
