Null mice develop evaporative dry eye disease with progressive corneal damage, degeneration of Meibomian glands and inflammation. Wax esters are almost absent and cholesteryl esters are increased in meibum resulting in increased viscosity of meibum. Mice also show some skin abnormalities.
