Aia1 and Aia2 are postulated to explain the occurrence of autoimmune hemolytic anemia in the NZB strain. Alleles at the Aia2 locus in the NZB and NZC strains account for a slight difference in the time of onset of the anemia in backcrosses to the two strains; the evidence for Aia2 is not strong.
