Mice homozygous for a null allele exhibit postnatal growth retardation, behavioral anomalies including hyperlocomotion, lower anxiety, higher impulsivity and impaired learning, abnormal formation of the neuronal cell layers of the dentate gyrus in the hippocampus, and premature death.
