Homozygous null mutants die at birth with cleft palate. Survivors show delayed growth, reduced lifespan, seizures, ataxia, hyperactivity, hyperresponsiveness and reduced learning, mothering ability and REM sleep. A point mutation lowers anesthetic effect.
