A 7-10X difference between C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice in circulating interferon in response to Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is attributed to this locus. Quantitative expression of cytokine genes Tnf and Il6 in response to NDV is also affected. The phenotype can be transferred with bone marrow cells.
