This locus controls expression of LDH-B subunit in liver. The b allele determines high activity of LDH-B in CBA/Lac strain; the a allele determines low activity in DBA/1, DBA/2, C57BL/6 and C3H/He. Heterozygotes are intermediate in LDH-B activity. This locus may slightly affect LDH-A amount as well.
