This locus controls an antigen on T- and B-lymphocytes. The a allele determines presence of Ly31.1 in A/He, AKR, BALB/c, C3H/He, DBA/2, SWR; the b allele determines absence in C57BL, DBA/1, SM, 129. Ly31.1 antigen was shown to be an alkaline phosphatase.
