This locus controls part of the difference in activity of Ca2+ or Mg2+ stimulated ATPase between C57BL/6J and DBA/2J strains. The hydrolysis of nucleotide triphosphates is controlled by the b allele of Ntp in C57BL/6 determining high activity, with the dallele in DBA/2 determining low activity.
